The Response

Wildfires burning dozens of houses in London. Downpours so severe they can drown people in basements. Record heatwaves paralysing our railways and hospitals. This sounds like fiction but isn’t. Our climate is turning far more hostile than many realise. Even in Britain, one of the richest nations in the world, we aren’t remotely ready. But it doesn’t have to be this way. There’s a lot we can do to protect ourselves.

This is the theme of my new book, The Response: A Story of Fire and Flood in Britain’s New World of Extremes.

Praise for The Response

David Shukman was the BBC’s first Science Editor and is now an independent speaker, consultant and author.

As I received the first copies of The Response, what mattered most was seeing the dedication page.
